It fucking terrifies people that Merida doesn’t have a man and a narrative establishing her sexuality as safely locked up under his control. That’s what people are reacting to IMO. Female sexuality is TERRIFYING and it every female character needs a male keeper to prove she’s safe and suitably womanly.
Just the fucking possibility that she might never have a male keeper—whether because she’s queer or ace or any other reason—is UNACCEPTABLE. It’s reason enough to question her gender identity and flip out all over the place.
People are terrified of women’s sexuality, is what I’m saying. Particularly if it’s not safely directed at/in the keeping of some fucking man.
